Crossposted from LJ, comment here or there.

I've read two comments in the past twelve hours of this nature, and so I need to respond. Comments in question:

"I generally avoid any fanfic with trans characters, because people suck at writing them."

"This is the first fic I've read dealing with transgenderism that is accurate and non-offensive."

There are some implications here that sadden me, gotta admit.

One, this explains why no one on my flist ever reads my transfic. (Any transfic? Really? You're missing out! Want recs? I have recs aplenty!)

Two, OH GOD AM I DOING IT WRONG? D:

For what it's worth, you guys, I don't think I'm doing it wrong. :/ And if I am, please comment and tell me so, so I can stop. And if I'm not, please comment and tell me so, so I can not stop because I feel bad about comments like these. OK?

Tl;dr: Not all transfic is bad! I don't know where you folks have gotten this impression, but I promise it's mistaken. And I'd like to hope mine aren't one of the exceptions that make that particular rule.

So much homework, dear sweet baby Jesus so much homework, but I'm not suicidal anymore. (It occurred to me that the fact that my hormone levels were bottoming out last night probably didn't help matters, then, either.) Off to go do some of that homework now. With friends, so it's actually going to get done!

But first, news! The judge signed my order today! From the record on the Internet: "ORDER TO CORRECT GENDER DESIGNATION SIGNED 9-13-2010." Yay! XD I assume they'll probably be sending me a copy in the mail.

Other things I'm going to be getting in the mail: Dexter in the Dark, She's Not There, and SN s5. And Sam finally returned my Seeker s1 to me today (and I forgot it at work, haha). :)

So excited for Thursday. I've never been this excited for Career Fair before. It's amazing what nice clothes can do. It's like magic.

Oh, and it seems like every religious organization on campus set up a table next to the sidewalk between Walker and Couch today. It was like a religion gauntlet. "Have you heard of Paradigm?! :DDD" YES OMG IT'S MY FIFTH YEAR, I WOULD HAVE TO BE DEAF, BLIND, AND DEAD NOT TO HAVE HEARD OF PARADIGM. Still not interested, kthx. >_< Thankfully, I survived. I'll have to find a new way out of the building if they're there regularly. I'm not entirely sure they appreciated my presence anyway. "Are you interested?!" "No." "...Well, at least he's honest." Sorry, you guys, there's just only so many of you I can be polite to at once, especially when I'm having a week like this. Try again one at a time and I'd be happy to deliver your flyer to the recycle bin for you.

I'm home!

My parents came and got me yesterday. Today, we went shopping. My parents finally understand why nothing I buy ever fits (stupid short arms and short torso, lol). Regardless, I have a suit to wear to Career Fair, now! With a tie and everything. \o/ It makes me feel spiffy. It's fabulous. I'll probably take a webcam picture sometime and show you all. XD (Also, hooray for fitting in kids' clothes that are way less expensive.)

This afternoon was my court date. In other words, it's a long story. )

2. Anyone know where I can find a streaming or direct dl link to this past Tuesday's Warehouse 13? Please? )

3. Belated Degrassi love. )

4. Most importantly atm, because I can't resist a good self-pimping opportunity, I've come back from behind and started kicking ass and taking names over at [livejournal.com profile] writing_game. If you're a WC fan, you should go check out my new fics over there. Currently I've posted eight of them -- three in the SPverse. Next up is a futurefic, and I'm also planning more MTF!Neal and hopefully a Monsters sequel. Most or all of them will be xposted eventually, but I've been seriously slow on making posts these days, so I can't promise they'll be up any time soon.

5. Dark Blue. )

P.S.: That QL/SN commentfic I've been working on? I flaked on it, and then I just plum forgot, and arghh, idek why I can't finish the thing. But I will. I will. *determined*

There's longer posts I've been meaning to make, but instead, I'll make this short one.

Small things (school, Fair loot, Day Break). )
  • Biggest news: I have to go to court after all. My buddy Mr. Guy must have been mistaken. ): Shirl, the woman from the court who told me so, first gave me the option of 9/1. A Wednesday. I'm thinking "holy heck, if they make me go down on a Wednesday again...". And then she suggests 9/3 (Friday, two weeks from today). So alright then, Shirl. The third it is. At least it's not a Wednesday. I may even be able to find someone besides my parents to get me back down there, seeing as that's Labor Day weekend. Here's hoping.

    Quick things:

    RL )

    3. Anyone see the supposed trans character on Degrassi tonight? I, uh, must have watched the wrong Degrassi or something. Idek. Halp? ETA: This explains my problem -- TeenNick decided to air the last of s9 first, so they're behind Canada for a few days. Meaning I didn't watch the wrong thing and Adam is coming, I just have to be patient.

    4. I'm working on a SN/QL crossover for comment_fic. I'm partway in and I need your help! Question: What do you suppose God would like to say to Sam Beckett? I mean, obviously Sam has questions -- how should I answer them? (Pre-QL-finale, fwiw. But I could be persuaded otherwise by a particularly good suggestion or two.) Seriously, even if you don't know QL at all, you can just suggest God-type conversation topics, they might help. *hopeful*

    5. ...Uh, I just wanted a #5. Here, have the WC s1 gag reel.

Anybody got requests? What should I be writing? What would you like to see?

P.S.: In RL-news, I have the sore throat from hell, and the return-trip-from-Cleveland post is coming within the next two days, I promise. Also, passport stuff. )

Hey, guys! I'm kind of unfocused at the moment, but I'll try and make this detailed now so I don't forget everything later. Short version: Five hours out from surgery, surprised myself and the doctors with how well I'm doing. No nausea, barely any pain, nothing.

Really long version under the cut. )

Tl;dr: Things are good. Chest aches, but what can ya expect. We'll see how attempting-to-sleep goes, but staying awake is working out well.

    Update

    An update to this post:

Got loads of help from ftm with the court-order thing -- including contact info for someone who actually knows what they're talking about, and a sample petition (why didn't I think of FTM_DFW to begin with? silly me). I'll probably wait to ask about the passport problem until after surgery, since I don't have any need for a passport in the forseeable future, anyway.

And as far as the DART situation: DART board approves trans protections. \o/

In other news, surgery in less than a week! And I downloaded BitTorrent again and got hooked up with more TV, so between that, Hulu, and MegaVideo I should be set for ages. :D (And thankfully BN and RP air on Thursday nights so I won't be totally stoned while watching next week's -- I'm so excited for those! Yesterday's were awesome: spoilers. ) Shows, you are too good to me.)

Also looking forward to another TZ I haven't seen ("The Mind and the Matter") at 4:30am tomorrow. And then a party. Should be fun.
    lonetread: (Default)
So, apparently having no homework, no TV, and no fic with due dates any time in the foreseeable future leaves me bored out of my mind. Jeez. I'mma have to start working on NCT or one of the SP sequels or something. Boooored.

In other news, less than two weeks until top surgery! I. Am. So. Stoked. *flails* (Except that I fucked up one of my new button-down shirts with stain remover, gdi. Wtg, self.)

    Cut for document-changing worries. )

Ugh. At least after all this it'll be over and I can move on with my life. 9_9

ETA: Oh, hellll no, DART. "DART Guts Transgender Policy".

Further ETA: Posed the questions in paragraph 3 over at [livejournal.com profile] law_questions and [livejournal.com profile] legal_questions; hopefully they can help out.
    lonetread: (facepalm)
As has been posted and crossposted ad nauseum all over LJ, gender changes on passports no longer require proof of surgery as of today. So I thought, hey, maybe I can change my passport and then use that as ID when I'm flying to Cleveland instead of my license. Anything to make the trip easier, right?

Except apparently not, since I went over to United to make sure you could change the Secure Flight info that the TSA'd asked for when I bought the ticket, only to find that you can change literally everything (including your name and DOB) except for your gender. Instead of the drop-down menu, there's just "Gender  On file". WTF.

Sure, it's unlikely I could have gotten a new passport in three weeks, but still. Thanks for nothing, whoever's fault that is. Way to be.

ETA: Relatedly, Sons of Maxwell's third United song is out. If you haven't heard them, here's "United Breaks Guitars", "United Breaks Guitars Song #2 (Mrs. Irlwig)", and "United We Stand".

    0. I got a 36/50 (72%) on the Theory final. That explains my B, I suppose.

    1. I'm still friends with E (the subject of the previous entry). If you're interested in seeing the tl;dr Facebook messages that argument has thus far culminated in, I'm happy to c&p them into a flocked post. I think I did pretty well expressing myself. And it only took me an hour and a half! *g*

    2. Good news about Self-Portrait (and surprise fanfic!). )

So. I was actually getting writing done on SP this morning, amazingly enough. And then I went and got on Facebook. Cut for length, language, and transphobia. )

ETA: And I just watched the Seeker series finale. Which was great, but. Series finale! ): I can has happy things, plz?!

    ETA 2: Crossposted to [livejournal.com profile] queer_rage.

Really should be sleeping, so I'll make this quick. Numbered list tiems, as I think of things.

    1. Taylor, I will get those NCT notes to you. Honest I will. Maybe this weekend. Bother me about it if I don't, seriously. I want to get this done as much as you want me to. (Although SP might have to take precedence initially, because of the fest -- do you watch WC?).

    2-4. RL )

    5. Check out the fics at http://community.livejournal.com/intoabar/. They are fantastic. Particularly the WC/Firefly one and the WC/Dresden Files one. Go. Read. Enjoy.

    6. I love everything Jonathon Coulton has ever written. At the moment, I'm particularly enjoying "Creepy Doll". A+.

Woman Sues Doctor After Catching Fire During Surgery

Holy shit. That is all. D:

Relatedly: I've had a massive avalanche of homework and such this week, so I haven't yet gotten around to emailing Medalie (did get around to taking my pictures themselves, though). Even so, (was deciding between Medalie and Raphael, if I haven't mentioned that here; I did here) I'm starting to lean towards Raphael. Still not sure, though. Gahh. ): I guess I'll see what Medalie says and what other pics I can dig up, and go from there. :-/ I just want it all to be decided and happening already! I can has summer nao?
    lonetread: (writing)
Someone already claimed the prompt I wanted, you guys! ): And I know I could make a second claim on it, but I don't think I have enough ideas for it, anyway. So, what should I write? Think I should try and get SP done in time for the fest? Alternately, there's my trans!Dean story. Or that WH13 prompt. Or the Burn Notice one. ETA: Or the Psych one (2353, "Psych, Shawn/Gus, Shawn left home for many reasons - one of which was because he really didn't know how to tell his dad that he was Shawn and not Shawna. Gus was the only one he's told, and he's always known."). Or so many many other things. Or I could just give up and read everyone else's fic instead because I can't write long fic. Your thoughts?

Meanwhile, [INSERT EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF GLEE AND CAPSLOCK HERE]. Somone claimed my Seeker prompt! :DDDDDDD YAY.

*deep breath* More calmly: You guys should go claim things. Not enough of the transfic is getting claimed and this is a travesty.

In unrelated news and simply because it fit slightly better here than in the srs bzns post (religion, part 2) I'm planning for later, my coworker/supervisor A told me yesterday that I was in a dream she'd had. Apparently it was just a cameo, lol, where I literally ran in one side of the scene and out the other ("hey, there's Justi--aw, darn, there he goes."), which I think is hilarious. But the best part is she was like, "Yeah, and it was great, because I had this awesome car. And you'd had surgery -- I know I had no way of knowing that, but it was one of those things you know for no reason in dreams." Pretty fantastic dream all around. (And with luck surgery will be more than a dream soon; I'm narrowing my choices slowly but surely. Or, becoming more informed, at least. >_<)

ETA (3/27): Claimed my own WC prompt this morning (#3766). It occurred to me that a) my claiming it doesn't stop anyone else from also claiming it, b) if I don't get it finished, it's my own prompt, so it hopefully wouldn't be as disappointing, and c) I had left it vague so other people could have their own ideas -- and hadn't noticed the vagueness allows me to write any of the three ideas (past-fic, present-fic, bodyswap) I'd had in that verse and still meet the prompt. So, I think I may be able to do this. (And, um, I requested the last possible posting date, so. That ought to help, too. Heh.) Wish me luck!

ETA 2: Someone also claimed the MTF!Ellen prompt, the FTM!Dean prompt, and last year's FTM!Pepper-from-Good-Omens prompt. Way to be awesome, fandom. Sooo looking forward to May now.

First: spoilers for Human Target ep 'Baptiste' and the Psych sf. )

Second: Speaking of HT, I have bunnies. One is HT/White Collar, which, all that business in "Baptiste" is a perfectly logical reason for Neal to hate guns, don't you think? And/or, I could see Geurrero and Mozzie as friends/acquaintances/partners in crime. And the second one is HT/Leverage, which I'm sure could work somehow. Or just be awesome. Along with that HT/BN that I mentioned previously. Seriously, someone should write me one. I'd love you forever. :D

Third, and the point of the post: Speaking of bunnies! [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest opened for prompt submisions today, and there are already so many epically awesome ones! Giant, very multifandom list of my favorite-so-far lgbtfest prompts. That you should totally write. ) And, yeah, this really is the short list. I promise. >_< Aren't they awesome?! (Hopefully someone else writes the BN one so I don't have to!) I'll probably be prompting some DB and a bunch of repeats, myself.

Fourth: I've been randomly reading far more than is healthy about a) privilege, and b) religion (and some lulzy religious fail) in the past few days, and, on those lines, atheistcartoons.com has really lulzy cartoons. This one, however, is not so much lulzy as trufax (and happens to be the intersection of (a) and (b)). Unchecked Christian privilege ftl. Sigh.

Finally: Anyone want to make a sign? Due date's the 9th.

Oh, and also this. Mine's the headstone one. ("Body", get it? Hehe. ...Well, I thought it was clever. Shut up. ;))

Backwards, vague spoilers for Numb3rs 6x16, 'Cause and Effect'. )

Huge spoilers for Medium, 6x16 'How to Beat a Bad Guy' and 6x17 'Allison Rolen Got Married'. )

WC sf ('Out of the Box') spoilers. )

Spoilers for Castle 2x16, 'The Mistress Always Spanks Twice'. )

Anyway, before Castle were the BN finale (hooray for Garret Dillahunt continuing his streak of making an awesome villain in everything I watch), and WC's "Front Man", which: we can has some hurt/comfort already, you guys? Please? Hello, there was 1x13 'Front Man' spoilers ). A+.

Oh, and there was Human Target on Wednesday, too, that I watched, that was as crazy-actiony-awesome as usual (and hey, there should be a BN crossover with that, that would work well. someone get on that!).

And that's it for the relatively recent TV. The Psych finale is conspicuously absent, I know; I'll be watching that rerun tomorrow.

In other news, college and RL stuff. ).

    Roy Zimmerman )

Last but not least, I saw this hilarious WC vid to "Skullcrusher Mountain", and in so doing was introduced to Jonathan Coulton. Check him out, he's hilarious, and the songs on that page are free to stream in full. My faves are "Re: Your Brains", "Skullcrusher Mountain", "Code Monkey", and most of the others that I've listened to, but to list them all would rather defeat the purpose of favorites. ;) Enjoy.
