Crossposted from LJ, comment here or there.

I've read two comments in the past twelve hours of this nature, and so I need to respond. Comments in question:

"I generally avoid any fanfic with trans characters, because people suck at writing them."

"This is the first fic I've read dealing with transgenderism that is accurate and non-offensive."

There are some implications here that sadden me, gotta admit.

One, this explains why no one on my flist ever reads my transfic. (Any transfic? Really? You're missing out! Want recs? I have recs aplenty!)

Two, OH GOD AM I DOING IT WRONG? D:

For what it's worth, you guys, I don't think I'm doing it wrong. :/ And if I am, please comment and tell me so, so I can stop. And if I'm not, please comment and tell me so, so I can not stop because I feel bad about comments like these. OK?

Tl;dr: Not all transfic is bad! I don't know where you folks have gotten this impression, but I promise it's mistaken. And I'd like to hope mine aren't one of the exceptions that make that particular rule.

A/N: Two more ficlets written for [livejournal.com profile] writing_game . These are set in the same universe as He Who Fights Monsters. If you haven't read that and intend to, you should do that first. Spoilers follow. And angst. Lots of angst.

Untitled I (100 words) )

Untitled II (282 words) )
lonetread: (b&w_neal)
A/N: The muse and I decided we're sticking with "Nicole", so here's part 3. (If you missed them: part 1 and part 2.) Written for the week 70 [livejournal.com profile] writing_game prompts "surprise each other with alphabets made of twigs" & "indicators of progress, signs of industry and thought". 166 words. Also, I still haven't ruled out rewriting part 1 and I'm especially concerned about a loss of continuity, motivation-wise, between the first part and later parts; I'd love your thoughts and appreciate your constructive criticism in this regard.

Fic under the cut. )
lonetread: (b&w_neal)
A/N: First posted at week 70 of [livejournal.com profile] writing_game  in two parts (and in slightly abridged form) for the prompts "identify" and "staring straight ahead with your little plastic face"/"a dance we cannot imagine, a dance whose name we can only guess". Set in a universe, begun here, in which Neal is MTF. There's more of this written (and it includes one of my favorite exchanges ever), but I'm considering changing her chosen name, and I'm going to hold off on posting it until I'm certain one way or the other on that. If you want to suggest girls' names that start with "N" (especially if you can think of ones that don't rhyme with "Caffrey"), I'd be obliged.

Under the cut. )

I intended to write Monsters-verse for this prompt ("taint") and ended up with zombie apocafic. I blame that on [livejournal.com profile] multi_ficathon pimping [livejournal.com profile] zombiebang, and also on [livejournal.com profile] dime_for_12. (In the best way possible, of course.) 100 words, written 8/28/10 for week 70 of [livejournal.com profile] writing_game.

Unnatural Disaster )

Because I'm apparently fixated on Neal sending cards to Peter. :) These drabbles were written and posted 8/26/10 at week 70 of [livejournal.com profile] writing_game (one word has been changed since then, but nothing important). The prompts were "everything was hand-lettered then, not like today" and "save", respectively.

P.S. )

A/N: First posted at week 70 of [livejournal.com profile] writing_game (prompts: "whose name begins with an 'L' as far as you can recall" and "allow"/"community"). Title from the poem "Forgetfulness" by Billy Collins. 400 words (two doubledrabbles), written 8/23-26/10.

Used to Know By Heart )

A/N: Doubledrabble, first posted at week 70 of [livejournal.com profile] writing_game. Background established N/P/E. Title from the poem "Some Days" by Billy Collins. Inspired in large part by this interview with WC's ex-con-artist technical advisor Simon Lovell, as well as by the prompts: "stand-offish, professorial in the worst sense of the word" and "striding around like a vivid god, your shoulders in the clouds". Written 8/22-23/10.

Crossposted from [livejournal.com profile] writing_game (originally posted here). First, the ones in the Self-Portrait 'verse. You're probably going to want to read Self-Portrait, In Skin first.

Confidence Man (100 words) )

Man in the Mirror (100 words) )

With Friends Like These (200 words) )

Moving Boxes (100 words) )

Sneak peek of the fic to come! )
lonetread: (words)
1. As you can see, I have finally updated my 15. That's been a really long time coming (...understatement), so you should go check them out. As always, if you know who made any of the ones that lack proper credit, let me know.

2. I bothered [livejournal.com profile] clex_monkie89 and [livejournal.com profile] sashataakheru on AIM last night and think I finally have a suitable plot for the WC bodyswap fic. Which is good, because it's extraordinarily appropriate for my first prompt on [livejournal.com profile] writing_game this board, "extenuating circumstances", but I couldn't write that until I'd worked out several large promblems (like not knowing what caused the bodyswap). So, I can write now!

2b. Except that I have loads of homework. Argh. I hope I'll find that sufficient motivation to actually get some homework done.

3. Unfortunately, the WH13 fic is not going so well. Sigh. But at least I'm not on a clock for that one.

4. Speaking of fic with deadlines, oh god the SN/QL. *headdesk* OP of that prompt, if you're reading this, I AM SO SORRY. D: I will finish that fic. One day. Hopefully soon. I will. Honest. DDD:

5. I watched the Psych finale yesterday  morning. <3333 Now all I've got left to catch up on are Dark Blue and Happy Town. (And while I'm on the subject of TV, how disappointed am I that Lone Star and The Event are in the same timeslot? VERY. I mean, obviously, Event is going to have to take precedence, but still. It saddens me.)

6. I went back to TO and the Werelist for the first time in about five years today (technically, I'd been back at TO a couple years ago to update my gender on my profile, but I didn't stay long). Actually remembered my passwords, even. My Werelist account had been deleted, but I made a new one. Hadn't realized how much I missed all those guys. It's good to be back.

7. Saw Toy Story 3 for free at Meacham on Friday night. Such a happy-making movie. \o/ :DDD *love*

Now, time for lunch, then homework, then fic. *nodnod* We'll see how well that works out.

1. Dexter is Delicious came out the other day. I wish I'd known sooner, I'd have preordered it! Oh, well, I fixed that. It'll be coming soon. :)

2. MAINTENANCE RANDOMLY CAME AND FIXED MY A/C. IT IS NOT ARCTIC!COLD IN MY ROOM ANYMORE. Warranted caps are warranted. Several times, I've made soup or popcorn mostly to keep warm, that's how bad it's been. (I'd have contacted Maintenance myself, but I thought I just couldn't work the thermostat. I'm still not sure I can work the thermostat, but IT'S NOT COLD ANYMORE YAY.)

3. Holy shit WC finale. I don't even. *flails*

4a. Well on my way to figuring out the perfect set of fictional cursed artifacts to use in my WC SP bodyswap sequel. Sasha or anyone else who has knowledge of ancient Egypt, want to recommend me a good pharaoh? Or "things you might find in a pyramid"? Or just hear the ideas I'm working with so far and make sure they make sense (in a "there are no polar bears in the Antarctic" kind of way)?

4b. Also made progress related to the artifact for my WH13 transfic. I was all set to have to give up and use the same or a similar artifact for both of these, but this turned out to work out better if it's not even Egyptian (unfortunately; I have a pharaoh all picked out if that changes!), so I guess that's good. (Although I still keep confusing this and the above. *sadface* That's what I get for plotting more than one fic with a similar plot device at a time.) I just have to figure out whose it was and what, exactly, it is. And I know that doesn't sound like a whole lot of progress, but you'll have to trust me that it is. ;)

5. In less happy news, I have so much homework. It is going to be horrible. D: Sigh. (I already had to miss the Psych finale, the Terriers premiere, and two hours of Dark Blue yesterday just for one class worth of homework and because I couldn't find an open TV. And these are projects. School, gtfo my life plz. I've had enough of you.)

ETA: Check out my 80 points worth of WC fic over at writing_game. I do believe that's a new personal best. By over ten points. *bows*

"I hacked history!" has got to be one of Leverage's best lines ever. XD

In other news, I hope this board at [livejournal.com profile] writing_game goes on forever and ever (read: I'd at least like a warning before it closes, kplzthx). My epic plan, it is epic. I ended up switching some prompts around, and not writing Monsters fic for the one I'd planned to, but I'm still having bunnies, so yay. (I would have written more today, but I made the mistake of reading a very intense collarkink fill this afternoon that really stuck with me and ruined me for all my stories until a few minutes ago.)

Now, fic-wise:

1. The MTF!Neal verse-thing (lol idek what it is) unexpectedly grew something approaching a plot tonight while I wasn't paying attention. Not sure whether this is good or bad. I think I'd trade that in to just know her name, but what can ya do. (Besides, I'm hardly one to talk -- I didn't know my own for a solid few months post-social-transition. But then, that annoyed me too, so at least I'm being consistent?)

2. Monsters-verse has developed the levels of angst probably everyone but me saw coming. (Although, really -- even the dog is angsty?! That's just wrong. My head is a scary place sometimes, I tell ya.) Now I need to just, y'know, actually write it down. *nodnod*

2b. Spoilers for my fic 'He Who Fights Monsters'. )

3. If "dialogue-only WC zombie apocafic" sounds like something you'd enjoy, you should know I posted just such a drabble yesterday at writing_game. Turns out it worked better for that prompt than Monsters did. And it makes me laugh. XD

TV stuffs (WH13, Happy Town). )

1. USA, stop trying to kill me! BN and RP. )

2. Anyone know where I can find a streaming or direct dl link to this past Tuesday's Warehouse 13? Please? )

3. Belated Degrassi love. )

4. Most importantly atm, because I can't resist a good self-pimping opportunity, I've come back from behind and started kicking ass and taking names over at [livejournal.com profile] writing_game. If you're a WC fan, you should go check out my new fics over there. Currently I've posted eight of them -- three in the SPverse. Next up is a futurefic, and I'm also planning more MTF!Neal and hopefully a Monsters sequel. Most or all of them will be xposted eventually, but I've been seriously slow on making posts these days, so I can't promise they'll be up any time soon.

5. Dark Blue. )

P.S.: That QL/SN commentfic I've been working on? I flaked on it, and then I just plum forgot, and arghh, idek why I can't finish the thing. But I will. I will. *determined*
lonetread: (writing)
Worked out the issues in my newest QL/SN fic (for this prompt from [livejournal.com profile] comment_fic) and I'm almost done. Or at least, I will be once I start typing up the rest of what I've written. *eyeroll* It's been a lot of fun, though, really. :D

Thinking of writing WC for [livejournal.com profile] writing_game this board (after the above fic, of course), and just getting back into the swing of things over there. I don't know, though, I'm not sure the prompts are sparking a whole lot; we'll see, I guess. (And I'm kinda disappointed about the new PC rule -- half the fun was taking those out of the obviously-intended context and using them some completely different way!)

Finally, [livejournal.com profile] multi_ficathon is coming back from hiatus! You should all join and help it come back to life properly. Because it's fun.

ETA: Oh crap. Just discovered a massive, epic, gigantic plot hole in my fic. ASDF;KLJH THIS STORY IS DRIVING ME INSANE. /o\

ETA 2: I think I solved my plot hole. By leaving it and ascribing it to a miracle/"God did it". Hey, this is the one story I can get away with that shit. And I'm almost done, so any way I can avoid completely changing the story to fix it, I'm all over that. :) Still kind of disappointed about it, but what can ya do.

Quick things:

RL )

3. Anyone see the supposed trans character on Degrassi tonight? I, uh, must have watched the wrong Degrassi or something. Idek. Halp? ETA: This explains my problem -- TeenNick decided to air the last of s9 first, so they're behind Canada for a few days. Meaning I didn't watch the wrong thing and Adam is coming, I just have to be patient.

4. I'm working on a SN/QL crossover for comment_fic. I'm partway in and I need your help! Question: What do you suppose God would like to say to Sam Beckett? I mean, obviously Sam has questions -- how should I answer them? (Pre-QL-finale, fwiw. But I could be persuaded otherwise by a particularly good suggestion or two.) Seriously, even if you don't know QL at all, you can just suggest God-type conversation topics, they might help. *hopeful*

5. ...Uh, I just wanted a #5. Here, have the WC s1 gag reel.
lonetread: (fandom)
Still sick (Mom thinks I have strep, arghh), but dude, my shows. YOU GUYS. <3

1. White Collar. Spoilers for 2x1. ) (ETA: I just found out they called this episode "Withdrawal". Fantastic double-meaning title is fantastic.)

2. Covert Affairs. Spoilers for the series premiere. )

Tl;dr: Well done, USA. Now keep it up for Psych, BN, and RP and you will have one happy fan on your hands.

1. NCT )
2-5. Various other fics )

Anybody got requests? What should I be writing? What would you like to see?

P.S.: In RL-news, I have the sore throat from hell, and the return-trip-from-Cleveland post is coming within the next two days, I promise. Also, passport stuff. )
lonetread: (fandom)
1. Four hours? In two weeks? TNT, you are too good to me. I love you. Now if you would just hurry up and premiere Dark Blue so I'm no longer in danger of death-by-squee whenever the previews come on, that would be great.

2. I don't consider this a spoiler; cutting just in case. ) :D I can has this Leverage/WC crossover nao plz?! Do want.
lonetread: (writing)
Dangit, they're Jossing SP already (over at whitecollar_tv here; spoilers for Peter and Neal's backgrounds). Sad day. ): I totally almost went that route, too, instead of the GED, but that was so much harder, you have no idea. Sigh.

In other news, this is made of win. From Craigslist, preserved for posterity @ [livejournal.com profile] christinareborn: To the Straight Guy at the Party Last Night. XD

For more lols: I'm Comic Sans, Asshole. And less lols: Presidential Rumors (Bush vs Obama).

Finally, I was randomly browsing my own old posts the other night, and I found a meme I'd like to resurrect and see what happens. Under the cut. )

I also kind of want to do that "list fifteen characters and answer questions about them" meme again; anyone up for that?

P.S.: Gah, now that I came up with that example of "Shawn, 3 & 7", I kind of really want to write it. A lot. Oh noes. 9_9
