For [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest (fest post, with detailed header, here). Thanks, flist, couldn't have done it without you. Enjoy.

Technically, I could turn in SP right now.

Yes, folks, that's right. I have a 200-word version of section 2. I could be done. It could be over and you could has.

However: 1) I'm tired, and I don't want to wake up tomorrow and realize it sucks; 2) I'd kind of wanted to give the section a concluding sentence rather than just cutting it off at a really good sentence, and I'm still not sure I shouldn't; and 3) I have a small plot hole that I really should work out since I have the time. So I'll be posting it Wednesday.

Look at it this way: At least now, you get the best possible fic. And you get to anticipate it even more! ;)

I actually got Zera to admit that section 5 of SP sucks. This means it sucks A Lot. Definitely going to have to build in some time for rewriting. And I still haven't finished section 2! DDD:

89% done, 110 words to go. Not counting section 5. Section 5, ihu. STOP SUCKING PLZ.

Thank god for Amnesty Wednesday.

For now, sleep tiems! (I'm gonna wake up at 4am to watch a TZ ep I haven't seen. It'll be good times. As it always is when I do this. Except for when whatever ep it is turns out to suck (e.g., "Lady Anne", "Mute", "Thing About Machines"), so hopefully this one'll be worth it. At any rate, I'll be able to check it off my list [24/156 to go!], so that's alright, then. :))

It's late, and I should be asleep, but I had to come *glee*. Finished another section of Self-Portrait! (The approaching deadline finally started approaching quickly enough to get motivating.) Section 1, no less, that I'd thought was going to be my problem section. Yays! I think it actually turned out really well, too -- Section 5, while finished, is definitely the one that I'm least happy with so far (not surprising).

No, I'm not going to post it -- probably not even really supposed to have posted the last one, since I think I'm supposed to keep it mint condition for the fest, but ah well, what can ya do. I just wanted to share the happy. (Don't despair, you'll get to see it on Monday!)

Heck, with some luck, I may get a chance to try and improve on 5, if I get done soon enough. And then I'll be done and have all the time I need to work on that SN fic I promised someone over at comment_fic last week. (And maybe the fill for my own lgbtfest prompt will be posted on Wednesday! What an awesome done-with-the-fic present that would be. I can has, author, plz?)

1. Defection letter is in the mail.

2, 3. Surgery. )

4. Cut for TMI. )

5. Finished another part of SP yesterday (and I really do need a SP tag, I think; I'll have to make one eventually), and started part 1. That's three down, two halves to go. I'm concerned I'll have too much for section 2 and not enough for section 1, but we'll see. At least, if all else fails, there's one last Amnesty Wednesday next week.

6. Got billed by OU today for summer. That class I thought I was getting paid for? Apparently since I got course credit, I have to pay tuition. Since, naturally, that's $1600 I can't exactly afford at the moment, I was on the phone with the Bursar's office, and the registrar, and Continuing Ed, and at least three other people, before finally ending up... at the voicemail of the woman I've been corresponding with by email about this class to begin with. D: Yeah. So I just hung up and sent her an email; we'll see where that goes. Wish me luck on playing dumb and begging out of that. ETA )

7. TV. )

ETA: 8. Finished God Delusion. It was really good. You should read it. See a couple posts back for the download link.

Anyone up for a word war? I wrote 90 more words yesterday, but I'm definitely not gonna get the rest done without some external motivation. If you want to word war/cheerlead/whatever, hit me up on AIM (LoneTread).

In other news, I've been putting all my plans for top surgery together over the last couple of days. Provided I can get ahold of Bryan and he can get a letter to Medalie, this is really going to happen. I'm stoked.

ETA: 66% done (well, technically I still to polish and trim section 5 till I'm happy with it, but we'll count it). Not bad at all, if I do say so.

...and because my muses are having a cage match over which story is going to get worked on tonight that will almost inevitably result in the answer being "none of them", you can have some rough drafts.

I'm curious whether patterns like these have anything to do with the format of the stories. For instance, I wouldn't be shocked if 2 and 3 were influenced by the fact that I consistently write drabbles. *shrug* Interesting to consider, anyway, I think.

0. I got a 36/50 (72%) on the Theory final. That explains my B, I suppose.

1. I'm still friends with E (the subject of the previous entry). If you're interested in seeing the tl;dr Facebook messages that argument has thus far culminated in, I'm happy to c&p them into a flocked post. I think I did pretty well expressing myself. And it only took me an hour and a half! *g*

2. Good news about Self-Portrait (and surprise fanfic!). )

OK, so I've literally been online all day today (up at 8:15 this morning, online by 9, it's now 7:30pm -- make that 8:30). Now that we've covered how much I Fail At Life, time for some tab closing, because I need to do something productive, and when things get this bad, that counts. Don't judge. *g*

Tab closing, aka random linkage:
Cut for length. )

In other news, have a cool article on Julia Serano and Ben Barres and a lolarious post from lower_tadfield. A+.

Speaking of grades: I ended up with an A (Tech Writing), three B's (Theory of Computation, Principles of Programming, and Numerical Methods), and a C (HCI) for this semester. Deserved an A in Theory, had been hoping for a B in HCI, but not failing Principles makes up for that. Basically. All in all, I'm okay with that. (Mostly. I emailed my Theory prof. We'll see.)

Oh, and lastly, I have been continuing to fail at WdM. Sigh. That's the only reason I'm writing this post -- because I opened my fic notebook, took one look at SP, and literally sighed out loud, slumped over, and had to use this to procrastinate. *sad panda* But as far as [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest goes, at least I have my Seeker fill to look forward to on the 28th! :D

Pseudo-ETA: Oh, and my class has been going alright. Light-speed, though, geez! Unrelatedly, have some epic win: 65 Million Years With a Creationist.

ETA:
1. Supernatural season 6 spoilers. Huh. I can has s6 nao plz? (And regardless if that's Sam or not, I'm not backing down -- that was, at the very least, not 100% Sam this time. Lucifer and all that blood can't have been good for him, you ask me.)

2. Cute dog rides turtle. :DDDD

3. For 99 years, OED got it wrong. Ha! At least Wikipedia doesn't take a century to figure out when it's screwed up! ;)

Samverse doubledrabble set during "Swan Song". Major spoilers, of course. And I didn't get all I wanted to address addressed in this one -- and I had to cut it down from about 260 words as it is! -- so I'm expecting this to be the first of two. We'll see how it goes; this one was hard enough! Enjoy.

Quick post.

Should really be going to sleep -- I woke up at 4:30 this morning to write my entire (admittedly 3-page) HCI essay -- but while I'm here, a quick post. (Yes, quick for real. Really.)

1. I ought to hear back from Medalie's secretary Valerie about my July 2nd date any day now. From there, it's just travel plans, possibly some more paperwork, and practicing how to pronounce his name (because I've been mispronouncing it in my head for years, argh). (And happily, Zera's big on photography, so she'll be the designated Trip Picture-Taker/Video-Camera-Wielder; I expect you'll have a record of anything interesting to look forward to either here or on YT, once July rolls around.)

2. I'm also in the middle of my Letter of Defection from the RCC (which I randomly found out about from here; hooray for undirected Internet browsing). I'm really irritated to hear it's necessary to do this at all (the idea that they count as members everyone who was ever baptized into the church is bullshit, frankly), but all the same I'm kind of excited that I get to. It's like doing course evaluations when you hated the teacher -- it'll be fun. *evil grin*

3. Supernatural 5x21, you guys! I was incoherent. And that preview! O_O You can find my thoughts over at Dime's recap post, if you're so inclined.

4. Finally got an appointment for that haircut I've needed for about three weeks, lol. Oh, phones, why must you be so intimidating?

5. Incredibly behind on WdM. Sigh. Someone pick me another (besides 4) number between 1 and 5? 4 was really helpful, benebu -- I got started! \o/ -- but unfortunately, that section is now already ~150 words. And nowhere near done. Meaning that this fic is going to be a hell of a lot longer than the 5 sections, 200 words/section that I'd intended. ...Unfortunately. Because we all know how I am with long stories. D: Wish me luck! (Anyone want a word war?)
lonetread: (xf)
I have about a bazillion things that need addressing, so here goes.

Cut for length and spoilers. )

OK, I’m at almost two pages in Word – I hope my cyberethics essay can get this long! – so I should call it a day and go have lunch. Later!
lonetread: (Default)
Really should be sleeping, so I'll make this quick. Numbered list tiems, as I think of things.

1. Taylor, I will get those NCT notes to you. Honest I will. Maybe this weekend. Bother me about it if I don't, seriously. I want to get this done as much as you want me to. (Although SP might have to take precedence initially, because of the fest -- do you watch WC?).

2-4. RL )

5. Check out the fics at http://community.livejournal.com/intoabar/. They are fantastic. Particularly the WC/Firefly one and the WC/Dresden Files one. Go. Read. Enjoy.

6. I love everything Jonathon Coulton has ever written. At the moment, I'm particularly enjoying "Creepy Doll". A+.
lonetread: (writing)
Someone already claimed the prompt I wanted, you guys! ): And I know I could make a second claim on it, but I don't think I have enough ideas for it, anyway. So, what should I write? Think I should try and get SP done in time for the fest? Alternately, there's my trans!Dean story. Or that WH13 prompt. Or the Burn Notice one. ETA: Or the Psych one (2353, "Psych, Shawn/Gus, Shawn left home for many reasons - one of which was because he really didn't know how to tell his dad that he was Shawn and not Shawna. Gus was the only one he's told, and he's always known."). Or so many many other things. Or I could just give up and read everyone else's fic instead because I can't write long fic. Your thoughts?

Meanwhile, [INSERT EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF GLEE AND CAPSLOCK HERE]. Somone claimed my Seeker prompt! :DDDDDDD YAY.

*deep breath* More calmly: You guys should go claim things. Not enough of the transfic is getting claimed and this is a travesty.

In unrelated news and simply because it fit slightly better here than in the srs bzns post (religion, part 2) I'm planning for later, my coworker/supervisor A told me yesterday that I was in a dream she'd had. Apparently it was just a cameo, lol, where I literally ran in one side of the scene and out the other ("hey, there's Justi--aw, darn, there he goes."), which I think is hilarious. But the best part is she was like, "Yeah, and it was great, because I had this awesome car. And you'd had surgery -- I know I had no way of knowing that, but it was one of those things you know for no reason in dreams." Pretty fantastic dream all around. (And with luck surgery will be more than a dream soon; I'm narrowing my choices slowly but surely. Or, becoming more informed, at least. >_<)

ETA (3/27): Claimed my own WC prompt this morning (#3766). It occurred to me that a) my claiming it doesn't stop anyone else from also claiming it, b) if I don't get it finished, it's my own prompt, so it hopefully wouldn't be as disappointing, and c) I had left it vague so other people could have their own ideas -- and hadn't noticed the vagueness allows me to write any of the three ideas (past-fic, present-fic, bodyswap) I'd had in that verse and still meet the prompt. So, I think I may be able to do this. (And, um, I requested the last possible posting date, so. That ought to help, too. Heh.) Wish me luck!

ETA 2: Someone also claimed the MTF!Ellen prompt, the FTM!Dean prompt, and last year's FTM!Pepper-from-Good-Omens prompt. Way to be awesome, fandom. Sooo looking forward to May now.
lonetread: (writing)
Have some more awesome prompts from the lgbtfest submission post. I was going to edit them into the original list, but I realized that there comes a point when you've got to admit no one's going to go back and see them, and they're just too awesome to be missed. So, here they are instead:  Second half of the short list. ) I totally had the same thought re: the last one, when I was watching that ep. I really hope someone writes it. Do want.

Here's my prompt comment. You'll recognize a few. And not just the reposts. ;) Hoping that a) [livejournal.com profile] taylor_serenil writes the one I blatantly stole from her (sorry, but it was just too awesome! :)) and b) someone writes my Seeker prompt. I've wanted that for ages but haven't found an agreeable muse. Maybe someone else (*cough* [livejournal.com profile] mresundance ) will.

Meanwhile, somehow, with all the trans prompts I could possibly want (including mine for stories I've already started!) out there for the taking, the prompt I'm strongly considering trying to write is "Any fandom, any character, Five lies s/he wouldn't have told if s/he'd been straight." (Sigh. Oh, muses. Must you always be like this? 9_9) Except that I may not be able to come up with enough. So we'll see.

First: spoilers for Human Target ep 'Baptiste' and the Psych sf. )

Second: Speaking of HT, I have bunnies. One is HT/White Collar, which, all that business in "Baptiste" is a perfectly logical reason for Neal to hate guns, don't you think? And/or, I could see Geurrero and Mozzie as friends/acquaintances/partners in crime. And the second one is HT/Leverage, which I'm sure could work somehow. Or just be awesome. Along with that HT/BN that I mentioned previously. Seriously, someone should write me one. I'd love you forever. :D

Third, and the point of the post: Speaking of bunnies! [livejournal.com profile] lgbtfest opened for prompt submisions today, and there are already so many epically awesome ones! Giant, very multifandom list of my favorite-so-far lgbtfest prompts. That you should totally write. ) And, yeah, this really is the short list. I promise. >_< Aren't they awesome?! (Hopefully someone else writes the BN one so I don't have to!) I'll probably be prompting some DB and a bunch of repeats, myself.

Fourth: I've been randomly reading far more than is healthy about a) privilege, and b) religion (and some lulzy religious fail) in the past few days, and, on those lines, atheistcartoons.com has really lulzy cartoons. This one, however, is not so much lulzy as trufax (and happens to be the intersection of (a) and (b)). Unchecked Christian privilege ftl. Sigh.

Finally: Anyone want to make a sign? Due date's the 9th.

Oh, and also this. Mine's the headstone one. ("Body", get it? Hehe. ...Well, I thought it was clever. Shut up. ;))
lonetread: (strange)
More or less written 2/10/10. Finally finished it up just now. I'm expecting this to be the first of at least two "Swap Meat" drabbles in this 'verse, but we'll see. For now, here's Sam's. (ETA: And I'm not 100% happy with the title, but I figure if the writers can make an otherwise-unrelated, cheesy pun, then so can I. :))

Face Mask )

So, here's the latest on my epics:
NCT (SFW) )

SP, and a WC fic rec. )

Sigh. My poor stories. I'm never doing this to myself again (he says, as his muses laugh hysterically and high-five in the background).

But in better news, I finished another Samverse drabble. (You see? Epics and I... really should just stay away from each other for good.) I'll spend Castle's timeslot picking out the best version and finding it a title, and have it posted shortly. So I can actually get something accomplished, at least. 9_9
lonetread: (writing)
A/N: Been trying to find a title and not having much luck, so I'll just post it anyway. Feel free to comment with suggestions. Enjoy. (700 words.) [ETA: And I finally went back and added a transfic tag to applicable posts. So enjoy that too, if you're so inclined.] [ETA 2: Titled 5/22/10.]
