I think I mentioned that Mom finished Parrotfish, but now Dad's finished it too. Nothing interesting to report so far besides what's already been said. (Or, I thought I mentioned it, but I can't seem to find it. Short version: Mom liked it and thinks she understands things a little better now, but still tried to use female pronouns for Grady. *sigh*)
Mostly the reason for this entry is because someone asked me ages ago if I knew why Wittlinger had written a book about a transguy when she isn't trans herself, and I didn't. Some random Internet surfing today, and now I do.
So, now you know.
(Also, I will make that entry about Just Add Hormones soon, I promise.)

According to this review,
The story, the author said during a telephone interview this week, was inspired by a friend of her daughter's, Toby, who is transgender. Toby hadn't completely transitioned when Wittlinger met him, but he was living as a man.
"I thought he was such an interesting person and that his was a story that probably needed to be told more than the limited amount that it has been told for teenagers," said Wittlinger. "So I asked him if he would help me with it and he said yes and let me ask him questions, pick his brain and talk through the emotions of what he was going through."
So, now you know.
