1a. The people on Happy Town are not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed, are they? ("I'm gonna go talk to my completely unresponsive, arguably mentally ill, father and expect any response whatsoever, let alone a coherent, useful one"? "Just found out my bf of a few days stole a weapon off my person and is a murderer -- I'm going to stay together with him anyway! <3"? Seriously, guys? Seriously? The fact that this worked out for the both of you is purely by virtue of television luck.)
1b. Except for the black guy, he's got a head on his shoulders -- and boy am I looking forward to seeing the culmination of that plotline, however much I like Tommy Conroy. He deserves whatever he gets for being a fucking idiot.
2. Speaking of Tommy: My two favorite characters spending half an episode together (Undertaker (aka Merrit Grieves) and Tommy)? A+.
3. Was really, really not expecting Rachel to get returned. Survive, yes. But to just show up again like that? Wow.

Unrelately, surgery is in exactly a month (less than, if we're counting the hours) -- 10:15am July 2nd. Yesterday, I ordered the post-op binder (free shipping, w00t!) and also asked Valerie a bunch of questions and then forwarded Bryan some of the answers. Today he called me, cleared a thing or two up, read me the letter, and promised to fax it over. So, now that we've got that all settled, I can continue making travel plans in earnest. Hopefully Bing's right and the airline prices drop fairly soon.

The whole airline thing is kinda crazy actually (yes, already -- haven't we established that my luck necessitates this kind of thing?). I tried (on 5/31) to book a flight for June 30th while the prices were still relatively low; they were $313 and Bing said they were gonna go up. So I booked that and then decided "wait, that's dumb, if we get there on the 1st, instead, that saves us a night of hotel and car and whatnot". So I canceled that and the prices skyrocketed to $399 and then I realized that the $345 ones, with United, had stops (the original ones, with Continental, were nonstop). That was annoying. But like I said, hopefully they'll go down soon; Bing was right before, after all.

Anyway, provided that works out even remotely, it was definitely the better idea, since I don't really have to be there on the 1st much at all. Medalie will be doing surgery that day and won't be able to see me for the consult, Valerie said, so we set up a phone consult instead (for the 23rd). (Yes, I hate phones, but this is worth it. Not to mention it's better if I don't have to do the calling, which I don't in this case, so I think I can handle it.) So yeah, that's all set up and plans are coming into place and it feels great.

My plans for tomorrow include depositing my checks (a tax refund and the stipend from my summer class-thing), acquiring a certified check and getting that in the mail to MetroHealth, and possibly going shopping for the various things I'll probably want a month from now (and work shoes, while I'm at it). And probably reading more of God Delusion, because I'm most of the way through Chapter 2 at the moment, and it just keeps getting better. I got thrown off by his quoting that Photoshopped sign as though it was real (anyone know if he's been informed otherwise since publication?), but apart from that, two thumbs up so far. (And this is a pdf I found online for free -- if there's interest, I'll stick it up on 4shared. ETA: Uploaded here.)

For now, though, I think it's time to call it a night.
