I... still haven't decided what I think about the SN s6 premiere. I think I approve. Thinky-thoughts (and David Paetkau fanboying) under the cut. )

Unrelated to Supernatural:
The Plan To Keep ‘The Event’ From Losing Altitude, Plus Questions Answered (spoilers for the pilot). Tl;dr: They're rerunning the pilot tonight (you should watch it!), and they will actually answer questions, so no worries that it'll be like Lost in that regard.
Lauren Lee Smith and Tara Spencer Nairn join season two of 'The Listener' -- Of note: "13 new episodes are being shot for season two in and around Toronto until February of 2011." AKA Season 2 is really happening, you guys! \o/

So much homework, dear sweet baby Jesus so much homework, but I'm not suicidal anymore. (It occurred to me that the fact that my hormone levels were bottoming out last night probably didn't help matters, then, either.) Off to go do some of that homework now. With friends, so it's actually going to get done!

But first, news! The judge signed my order today! From the record on the Internet: "ORDER TO CORRECT GENDER DESIGNATION SIGNED 9-13-2010." Yay! XD I assume they'll probably be sending me a copy in the mail.

Other things I'm going to be getting in the mail: Dexter in the Dark, She's Not There, and SN s5. And Sam finally returned my Seeker s1 to me today (and I forgot it at work, haha). :)

So excited for Thursday. I've never been this excited for Career Fair before. It's amazing what nice clothes can do. It's like magic.

Oh, and it seems like every religious organization on campus set up a table next to the sidewalk between Walker and Couch today. It was like a religion gauntlet. "Have you heard of Paradigm?! :DDD" YES OMG IT'S MY FIFTH YEAR, I WOULD HAVE TO BE DEAF, BLIND, AND DEAD NOT TO HAVE HEARD OF PARADIGM. Still not interested, kthx. >_< Thankfully, I survived. I'll have to find a new way out of the building if they're there regularly. I'm not entirely sure they appreciated my presence anyway. "Are you interested?!" "No." "...Well, at least he's honest." Sorry, you guys, there's just only so many of you I can be polite to at once, especially when I'm having a week like this. Try again one at a time and I'd be happy to deliver your flyer to the recycle bin for you.

OK, so I've literally been online all day today (up at 8:15 this morning, online by 9, it's now 7:30pm -- make that 8:30). Now that we've covered how much I Fail At Life, time for some tab closing, because I need to do something productive, and when things get this bad, that counts. Don't judge. *g*

Tab closing, aka random linkage:
Cut for length. )

In other news, have a cool article on Julia Serano and Ben Barres and a lolarious post from lower_tadfield. A+.

Speaking of grades: I ended up with an A (Tech Writing), three B's (Theory of Computation, Principles of Programming, and Numerical Methods), and a C (HCI) for this semester. Deserved an A in Theory, had been hoping for a B in HCI, but not failing Principles makes up for that. Basically. All in all, I'm okay with that. (Mostly. I emailed my Theory prof. We'll see.)

Oh, and lastly, I have been continuing to fail at WdM. Sigh. That's the only reason I'm writing this post -- because I opened my fic notebook, took one look at SP, and literally sighed out loud, slumped over, and had to use this to procrastinate. *sad panda* But as far as [ profile] lgbtfest goes, at least I have my Seeker fill to look forward to on the 28th! :D

Pseudo-ETA: Oh, and my class has been going alright. Light-speed, though, geez! Unrelatedly, have some epic win: 65 Million Years With a Creationist.

1. Supernatural season 6 spoilers. Huh. I can has s6 nao plz? (And regardless if that's Sam or not, I'm not backing down -- that was, at the very least, not 100% Sam this time. Lucifer and all that blood can't have been good for him, you ask me.)

2. Cute dog rides turtle. :DDDD

3. For 99 years, OED got it wrong. Ha! At least Wikipedia doesn't take a century to figure out when it's screwed up! ;)

Quick post.

Should really be going to sleep -- I woke up at 4:30 this morning to write my entire (admittedly 3-page) HCI essay -- but while I'm here, a quick post. (Yes, quick for real. Really.)

1. I ought to hear back from Medalie's secretary Valerie about my July 2nd date any day now. From there, it's just travel plans, possibly some more paperwork, and practicing how to pronounce his name (because I've been mispronouncing it in my head for years, argh). (And happily, Zera's big on photography, so she'll be the designated Trip Picture-Taker/Video-Camera-Wielder; I expect you'll have a record of anything interesting to look forward to either here or on YT, once July rolls around.)

2. I'm also in the middle of my Letter of Defection from the RCC (which I randomly found out about from here; hooray for undirected Internet browsing). I'm really irritated to hear it's necessary to do this at all (the idea that they count as members everyone who was ever baptized into the church is bullshit, frankly), but all the same I'm kind of excited that I get to. It's like doing course evaluations when you hated the teacher -- it'll be fun. *evil grin*

3. Supernatural 5x21, you guys! I was incoherent. And that preview! O_O You can find my thoughts over at Dime's recap post, if you're so inclined.

4. Finally got an appointment for that haircut I've needed for about three weeks, lol. Oh, phones, why must you be so intimidating?

5. Incredibly behind on WdM. Sigh. Someone pick me another (besides 4) number between 1 and 5? 4 was really helpful, benebu -- I got started! \o/ -- but unfortunately, that section is now already ~150 words. And nowhere near done. Meaning that this fic is going to be a hell of a lot longer than the 5 sections, 200 words/section that I'd intended. ...Unfortunately. Because we all know how I am with long stories. D: Wish me luck! (Anyone want a word war?)

I have about a bazillion things that need addressing, so here goes.

Cut for length and spoilers. )

OK, I’m at almost two pages in Word – I hope my cyberethics essay can get this long! – so I should call it a day and go have lunch. Later!

Just finished watching yesterday's HT ("Sanctuary"). Wow. Wow wow. How was THAT for a mytharc ep? Geez. My opinon of this show has just skyrocketed. Awesome. Also? I think zip-lining down a cable car is in the top-ten list of coolest things I've ever seen. :D (And for the lulz, the COMICS. I about died. Freaking hilarious.)

Speaking of hilarious: yesterday's WC ("Vital Signs"). Cut for incoherent spoilers. ) THIS EP WINS FOREVER. Mhmm.

Oh, and Leverage was awesome, too. (Had a heck of a time believing that was Luke Perry, but -- yay, Luke Perry! It's been too long since Jeremiah!) The end in particular. <3

ETA: And how could I have forgotten about last weekend's Seeker, "Perdition"? To put it succinctly: My reaction. )

Finally, I am super-excited about tonight's SN, "Song Remains the Same". This Anna stuff is... disquieting..., but the rest of it? *glee* "This is a pivotal Supernatural episode for one big reason that will become obvious as soon as you see it, and in many ways, the final scenes play out a bit like the end of 'Changing Channels'." Yes plz do want. XD

ETA #2: SN spoilers. )

And, off topic, some links:
How freaking cool is this? Crying shame I have no time or money. And if you haven't already seen it, this, too; how cool is this? U.S. Tax Court Rules in Favor of SRS Deduction. Not that I make enough to pay taxes, but still. :)

1. If I link this post enough, someone will respond with something helpful. I feel sure of this. (Unfortunately, how hysterically funny something is is apparently inversely proportional to its usefulness. So, um, srs bzns only plz?) Would it get more responses if I promised that sneak peek I was wavering on? Seriously, you guys. This may sound cracky, but if I can get it finished, I promise it's not going to suck. Halp!

2a. Other question: In "Swap Meat", spoilers )

2b. Gah, I got sucked in and just spent several hours on TV Tropes. Thanks a lot, Internet. D:

2c. My favorite part of the TVT binge? This, from the You Can't Get Ye Flask page:I lol because it's true.

3a. I'm sure I had other things to say, but I've forgotten most of them because TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life.

3b. The only one I remember is that, if I haven't mentioned it, Zera and I are co-writing a BN/Dexter fic. And we actually started trying to plot it yesterday (had the same idea at the exact same time, and took it as an omen), only to find an Invisible Wall. )
lonetread: (writing)
1. How did I forget to mention my favorite part of last HT? The gas mask scene. Omglol. "Feeding the cat. *casually pulls on gigantic gas mask*" Best line ever.

2. Oh my god "Swap Meat" was fantastic. And it gave me so many Samverse bunnies I don't even know what to do with myself. XD *glee*

3a. Seriously, guys. I am going to keep linking this post until someone responds. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

3b. Zera could still use the luck, too. Don't you want to read it? I want to read it!

BN, and some real life intruding on my fanboying. *g* )

Caught up on FF (1x8 and 1x9, both awesome; also, I love Bryce even more now), and SN ("Real Ghostbusters" = beyond win, and "Abdandon All Hope" was just... well. Ow. Not just What Happened That Shall Not Be Named, but the whole thing with Sam and Detroit. *breaks* In happier news, ass-kicking Cas was fantastic!)

WC's "All In" was great, too; no surprise there. I've noticed the bunnies have started perking up for this show, too, for me. (I do, however, blame the liplock pic for the [unrelated] RPF bunny I got an hour ago. Transfic, muses? Are we really sure this is a good idea? I wasn't even sure about it when it was fictional-character transfic. I think, since NCT, the good idea/bad idea distinction has all but lost all meaning.)

Finally, LotS's "Touched". Was awesome. No surprise there, either. This show, seriously. Freaking amazing. Although, since I ship it, I am going to spoil you. )

In other news, yay for Thanksgiving -- the break could have been longer, though! :)

Procrastinating --> LJ post that is probably going to end up being gigantic. Ah well. At least I'll finally be caught up and I can start getting better about making more smaller posts rather than fewer huge ones. Hopefully.

First, as always: TV.

Cut for Supernatural spoilers. )

Cut for vague FlashForward spoilers. )

Mentalist, after SN, sure had its work cut out for it. It was no contest, in comparison, but still very good even so. Jane is just awesome.

Cut for Legend of the Seeker s2 spoilers. )

Cut for length. )

NaNo, plus important news for anyone following my progress on NCT. )

Which will be finished once I say two more things. The first: I got two shirts from ThinkGeek and they are awesome. I Never Finish Anyth, which I've wanted for years; and Enough Social Interaction, which is just plain hilarious. :D

The second thing: more links.

Somehow, despite the fact that I only have one class and work, Mondays are always so exhausting. So I thought I'd update LJ while I relaxed.

TV (see the tags for a list of shows discussed under the cut) )

More name change madness. )

Finally, three four things:

1. The fire alarm has gone off three times in the past two nights, at 5:30am, 7:30am, and last night at 12:45am. THIS NEEDS TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. DX

2. NCT isn't dead yet! It's coming along, slowly but surely; the notes document (in which I'm including the actual text of the story as I write it, my notes and ideas about things to come that I haven't written actual text for yet, and massive chunks of text copied from (*cough*) websites (*evil grin*) (and in one case, from an interview on the DB site)) is about 9.5 pages long now. Which doesn't say a whole lot about the story itself, given that there's still flashbacks I need to (somehow) incorporate into the present timeline of the story itself, some bizarre tense changes I recently introduced that I now need to deal with by changing the tense of the entire story, and a(n Excuse) Plot I have yet to figure out -- but it's still promising! I have hope, anyway. :)

3. Links:
a) Obama's speech at the HRC National Dinner. <3333
b) Legend of the Seeker on DVD. :D
c) And the comment thread that explains so much about Twilight it's scary-yet-wonderful.

4. I finished "Wizard's First Rule"! Finally! All 820 pages of it. FTR, the show is better, but the book isn't half bad either. I don't think I'll read the next one, though, unless s2 is particularly awesome; books of that length are just too much of a commitment. For now, it's onto "Dexter by Design", and then finishing "American Gods".

Now, time for dinner and then skipping LTM and Castle in an attempt to figure out what on earth we're supposed to do for this Data Structures project. >_< Until next time!
lonetread: (pwt)
So, it's September. The really-long unexpected LJ hiatus was part forced and then part just that I couldn't find the time, but I'm back now! (Hooray! Right? Right?) Now to get on with the really long update.

First, the TV rambling, of course, to make it easier for those who aren't interested to skip it. TV (QL, Mental, Psych, et al) )

Relatedly, I've been all over the place fandom-wise since I got reacquainted with the internets. First, BuddyTV links I've been saving for you guys:
The Five New Shows You Must Watch This Fall
Flash Forward
Lucifer is Coming: How SN Stole Twitter

Oh, and speaking of Supernatural, spoilers, and my thoughts on the s5 premiere, 'Sympathy for the Devil'. )
Moving on...

I was also introduced to these Twilight-series recaps last weekend and they pretty much ate my weekend because they're awesome. The basic point is that she's reading the books so we don't have to, because they're that bad. Heh. And they sure sound it. I mean, Edward twirling part of her engine around in his hands while he gives her that little guilt-trip? Drop it in Criminal Minds and it'd almost be great writing. I don't know how anyone can think he's romantic/a good boyfriend/not a sociopath. *shudder* But so as not to offend, that's all I'll say about that, too. (Oh, except that I woke up the other day with a QL/Twilight bunny in my head. I'll just wait till she makes it through Breaking Dawn and then I'll take a crack at that, because boy would it be an improvement. And Sam roundhouse-kicking Edward wouldn't hurt, either. :))

Finally, in the last two three fandom-related things I think I have to say:
1. I think my new Dexter book is here. Tomorrow the post office opens and I can go get my package. Omgyay.
2. Despite the fact that I don't really like the song and am not completely sold on the ship, this vid (NSFW) is without a doubt the best one in the Dark Blue fandom. Seriously. Watch it. You don't have to have seen the show, and this will make you want to.
3. I am in love with both "Wizard's First Rule" by Terry Goodkind (440ish pages/836, and counting), and the TV series, Legend of the Seeker, that was based off those books. We're talking "watched one episode, found the entire series on Hulu on (go to the 'full archive' tab), and watched the entire 22-episode first season within the space of two weeks" kinds of love. If you need more encouragement than that to watch it: Craig Horner, who plays the MC, looks like the lovechild of Stuart Townsend and Misha Collins. And there's swordfights. Lots of them. I'm serious, guys. (And you have plenty of time to catch up! Season 2 premieres Nov. 7. Go, go, watch and enjoy!)

Onto other things:
Some news links, some news on how the name change is progressing, and some random. ) Here's the two best vids I've found for LotS, just to give you even more reason to watch and to make sure you don't miss them: one to Breaking Benjamin's "Blow Me Away" and a shippy one to Natalie Merchant's "My Skin".

Okay, that's all. Until next time. Which hopefully will be sooner than, say, NaNo. ;)

ETA: The documentary referred to in this (good) article about a trans British boy is now available on YouTube. Here, if anyone's interested.

ETA 2: Also, risking TMI ).

So. Exams are over; got an A in Linear Algebra. TV's been good. SN season finale was made of win. Currently writing crackfic about it, because this BuddyTV article (particularly the line about Lucifer possibly being "an adorable kitten that can destroy the world") combined with a conversation with [ profile] zerawolfe7 was inspiring. As in, Monty-Python-killer-bunny scene inspiring. Yeah. I'm going there. And it's going to own. :)

That is, however, currently the only good news to report. The bad news. Cut for length, because I sure can complain a long time. )

I can't wait to get out of here. FML. DX

Also, I once again lack headphones. So, roommate + no headphones = no music or online TV for yours truly. *sigh* Nothing against her, but my roomie really needs to gtfo, asap, or I might go crazy.

Spoilers for SN and Eleventh Hour. )

1. Flashpoint (spoilers) )
2. Numb3rs was a rerun, but I barely noticed because I was too busy being in love with this fic: "Mind Games". Seriously. I might wear out my refresh button waiting for her next update.

Checked out Lie to Me yesterday. Hulu's five-week rolling stock of episodes meant it only goes back till ep 4, but I've officially seen 4 until now. It's good stuff.

Although, when I watched the Castle pilot after that, I kept getting distracted by their facial expressions, lol. Castle's good too, though. Actually, even better, really. I couldn't stop laughing. :D Looking forward to catching up more.

In other news, I get emails from FanStory for the prompts, and recently I got one for a "flash" (500-800 words isn't flash to me, but hey) story with the prompt "the secret". Having just read Luna, well, I was inspired. I figured if I could manage to write 500 words, I'd submit it. I could use $100, y'know?

Unfortunately, when they say "contests are free to writers", they don't mean they're not free to everyone else, they mean you have to have a paid subscription to participate. I know I've got some writers on my flist. Anyone had experience with FanStory? It gives off that "scam" vibe more than ever thought of doing, if you ask me. I don't know if it's worth it. Not least because if you win second or third you get member dollars, and then I'd feel like I had to stay and use them. So what do you guys think? Should I go for it? Once I get the ending of the story pinned down I'll post it over at FictionPress and link it from here so you can check it out, but I'm pretty pleased with it.

One more thing: I got a research assistant position with my old Logic prof. It's pretty terrific. :D

And this is exciting! Sci Fi Channel Wants To Return To Oz With Tin Man Series I hope they do. Not quite sure what they'd do with it -- it wrapped up pretty well as it is -- but I'd watch it. More of Neal McDonough kicking ass in that hat, yes please. :)

Some Slate stuff:
A week in the life of Demetri Martin. Old, but still very funny.
Don't Give an Oscar to The Reader. I've seen several trailers for this movie and had no idea what it was about until I read this article. Boy, ignorance is bliss.
The mystifying, abysmal new ads for Gatorade.
And I followed that last link to The Quest for G (here), where intentional hilarity and unintentional hilarity collide into a Gatorade commercial/Monty Python homage that I can't really describe except to say that it's incredibly funny and you should totally watch it.

Finally, I totally want to see the DLM movie. The lack of Rube and original!Daisy is not cool, but it sounds like they managed okay without them.

So, first, regarding my last post: The speeches went on on Friday despite the two snow days. Didn't go too awfully, I don't think. And no, B didn't mention my status in his. Hell if I know where he got two minutes of things to talk about without including that, but somehow he pulled it off. :D

6. Re: Therapy, well, there goes my last shot at getting a script (or at least a letter) by my birthday. Oh well. I've already waited this long, right?

7. Re: Nano. It was Transgender Day of Rememberance two days ago, so I started some Samverse. It's still not finished, but I've got plenty to edit around and add to until it stops sucking. Day 20 word count: 125, day 21 word count: 110. All in the same story. So hopefully it'll get done soon. *cough* After all the homework I have to do today, of course.
