A/N: The muse and I decided we're sticking with "Nicole", so here's part 3. (If you missed them: part 1 and part 2.) Written for the week 70 [livejournal.com profile] writing_game prompts "surprise each other with alphabets made of twigs" & "indicators of progress, signs of industry and thought". 166 words. Also, I still haven't ruled out rewriting part 1 and I'm especially concerned about a loss of continuity, motivation-wise, between the first part and later parts; I'd love your thoughts and appreciate your constructive criticism in this regard.

“If I change my name, I think I’d like to keep my initials.”

The knowing look Peter gives her is a familiar one. “All that work you signed?”

Alleged work.”

“Alleged, hypothetical, theoretical.” He puts his hands up, yielding the argument. “If you say so.”

She nods. “Hypothetically, that may be a factor. Anyway, what do you think of ‘Nicole’?”

He considers it. “I could get used to it,” he says, adding, “You know, you could change your whole name, distance yourself. Clean slate.”

She grins. “Like I’d ever have a clean slate.”

“Probably a poor choice of words,” Peter admits.

She continues more thoughtfully. “I’m not sure I’d want one, anyway. There’s a lot to be said for name recognition. I’d lose all that fame.”

“You mean infamy.”

“You say ‘tomato’…. Except that no one says ‘tomahto’, do they? Someone really needs to update that cliché.”

“Looks like we have a meeting; guess it’ll have to wait.”

“Too bad,” she says, and follows him out.
